What Is Required To Apply For A Pan Card

By Wanda Rosner

A PAN card is a crucial document when purchasing or selling immovable property, automobiles, depositing money to post office account savings, applying for a credit card in banks among others. It is also essential when paying for overseas trips, restaurant and hotel bills or phone installation bills. The card is usually unique and cannot be applied more than one time hence to ensure no one breaks this law, the tax department board requires applicants to submit certain documents.

One main document required when applying for a pan card is your photograph. The approved photo size should be 3.5 cm long by 2.5 cm width. It is supposed to be of a decent color that gives clear visibility of your face. Applicants are advised to attach this photo in the given space within the given application form.

One is also needed to attach a copy of their matriculation or school-leaving certificate. If the applicant cannot trace where these certificates are, they can instead attach any other certificate from a recognized educational body. The purpose of these documents is to proof their identity and proof that they went through schooling.

Other essential documents that applicants should attach to the application form are electricity bill or landline telephone, consumer connection or broadband connection bill cards. You can also attach your bank account statement, depository account statement or credit card statement. The tax department requires these documents in order to proof your address.

The tax department would also require applicants to proof their date of birth through attaching a copy of their birth certificate. This certificate should have been issued by a Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue such certificates. If you do not have this certificate, you may also have to attach a copy of your marriage certificate or domicile certificate or a driving license.

Applicants would also have to attach a copy of their elector photo card or ration card that is printed with their photo. One may also have to affix a copy of one of their identity cards or passport that was issued by an approved legal institution. These documents are required to help the tax department have an easy time when trying to prove the identity of the applicant.

It is also important to put your signature within the given box in the application. The signature is supposed to be a print of your left thumb and not any other finger. Sometimes, some people may be tempted to apply two or more pan cards with their personal plans. However, when you put a print of your left thumb within this application form, the tax department would keep your information to make sure that you can never apply for another card.

Applicants are also required to pay certain fees to cater for the processing of the pan card. The income tax department requires applicants to pay through a demand draft, credit card, net banking, cheque or debit card. After the payment, the applicant is supposed to mention the acknowledgement number on the backside of the demand draft or cheque.
